Our Story

Back in 1987, Syd Knecht set out to build something meaningful. From a modest start in Montreal, Promark Electronics began as a distributor of wire, cable, and connectors, serving the broadcast and telecom industries, with early momentum growing through OEM partnerships.

It didn’t take long for customers to ask for more than just components. They needed complete solutions. So Promark evolved – moving into cable assemblies and harnesses, strengthening customer relationships and expanding its capabilities along the way. As demand increased, so did the vision. Through a series of strategic acquisitions, Syd opened the door to new and complex markets, including military and defense, where Promark became a trusted supplier of cable solutions for military vehicles.

Over time, the company became a true family endeavor. Syd’s three sons – Jarred, Brandon, and Robert Knecht – joined the business, each contributing their own strengths while preserving the values that had defined Promark from the beginning.

In 2019, another turning point emerged. Customers were increasingly searching for high-voltage cable that was readily available, without the burden of long lead times. That need sparked the launch of ProEV, a division dedicated to electrification. Since then, ProEV has played a major role in powering commercial and industrial electric vehicles across North America.

In 2021, Promark entered its next chapter by joining Electrical Components International (ECI), a move that accelerated growth after the pandemic and extended the company’s reach on a global scale.

Today, Promark continues to build with the same purpose it started with delivering high-quality assemblies, deep technical expertise, and practical solutions to real-world challenges. And as the company looks ahead, the torch is being passed to Basil Sowkey (General Manager), one of Promark’s most trusted and experienced leaders, ensuring that the legacy, values, and commitment to excellence carry forward into the next generation.
